Friday was Charley's half-day at school. So, we dropped him off and left, just like a 'real' day, but it was only for a few hours.
Still, despite the fact that I've sent him off in the world hundreds of times without me (right, Hannah!) I still managed to be that mom in the school yard. Yep, the dark glasses, weeping, crazy mom. I was trying to keep it super-incognito for Charley's sake, and knew I had failed when he said "Oh Mommy... it'll be okay".
He, by the way, was completely fine. Like, not a moment's hesitation from that one.
Here are the guys walking to school for the first drop off (ever!):
And, then... when it was all over, the teachers brought the kids outside and lined them up. Charley looks like he was thinking about vomiting, but I'm pretty sure that was just sadness about leaving school for the day.
The kids are just too, too cute. The little girl on the right is a very accurate replica of Charley's best-Ottawa-friend, Sadie, in both looks and personality. That works out swell, I think.
I'm not sure if Monday will be harder, or less hard than Friday. Maybe I got it all out then?? One can always hope.
As for Master Sam, he wondered about and asked after Charley for the whole morning. I think the hardest part will be him learning to 'be' without a big brother around all the time. I mean, he's never known a day like that! Maybe he'll just embrace having the toys and books to himself?
Sammy, sometimes-only child?
That's all for now. "Monday, Monday! Can't trust that daaaaaay!"
Now it's time to go for number three to keep Sammy company!! :)
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you, Lee. I would have been the same, if not worse than you. You know, the ugly cry? That would've been me. (Great idea to wear the sunglasses! I'll have to remember that...Not to mention the brilliant distraction of taking photos!) On a bit of a lighter note, Yay Charley! I can't believe he's in school already. Huge smooches to him, I hope he loves it! xo
ReplyDeleteAwww, that's sweet! Also, I think you need a stiff drink.
