Party time

We hosted Charley and Sam's birthday party at the local recreation centre.  What a great idea!  The staff set up the gym with all sorts of sports equipment and then the kids run around until they can't run anymore.  Then you hustle them into the big room across the hall, that's all set up for cake and singing and presents and YAY!  You're done!  Easy as pie.  Or cake.

We only had about 10 kids there, but you'd be amazed the noise they can generate.  Chris spent the entire party taking ball hockey shots on the kids and dunking in the not-at-all-regulation sized basketball hoop.  He nearly needed a time-out, I'm telling you.

Here are some photos of the fun:

This is how an entirely contented kid looks.  Dreamy.

Just look at my little sport-o.  This shot just about kills me.  He's so, so cute. (I can feel Uncle Phil's heart breaking from here!)

Kaylyn showed boundless energy, pushing Charley around the gym for a solid 15 minutes at top speed.  I think I'll appreciate this energy in her as a daughter-in-law.  Oh yeah, they're getting married... At least according to Charley.

A smooch from a best friend.  Adorable.

The big moment.  And a rare shot of me!

The stripey cake, in... well, not all its glory, but half its glory.  Martina is so proud of me at this moment.

Aha!  But are you still proud!  Yeah, that's right!!! I made a 5 layer Jello.  Take that, classy folk!  Oh, don't wrinkle your noses... the kids loved it.  And, seriously!, what ever happened to Jello?  Didn't it use to be a staple at such events?

Trend watch!  The Return of Jello!

There you go.  A little summary so that you can feel you experienced it, without actually having to hear the gym noise or eat the Jello.  (If you were there: Sorry.  Hope you're recovering nicely.)
