Aut-some!

I'm really, really new to this world of autism and I'm the first to admit I have no idea what I'm talking about.  Some days I hardly think about it and just figure "well, Charley's been Charley since I've know him and nothing is going to change that", and other days I wonder whether my lack of knowledge is holding him back somehow.

I know I try to be a good mom to him.

So, when great interviews like this are published, it certainly helps a curious, but under-informed, person like me.  Yay for Obama and yay for Mr. Ari Ne'eman.  I realize that his words don't apply to everyone, but it's certainly interesting to hear about the autistic identity from someone who is actually a part of the community, rather than another medical interpretation.

The bottom line is that it's going to take me a lifetime to understand the way that Charley's brain works.  But what parent can't say the same thing?

A tired boy on Thanksgiving Day.
